Tulcingo Del Valle

Tulcingo Del Valle

I was walking with intention of eating lunch at my beloved Tehuitzingo again, but walked down 47th instead today. I saw a sign for Tulcingo Del Valle, another place on my lunch to-do list that I read about on Chow.com. I was in the mood for a spicy burrito so I felt like today would be a good opportunity to mix it up and give it a try.

I approached the place to find myself initially confused. A sit down restuarant? That’s not what I was expecting. Oh! There is also a grocery/deli next door. So I walked into the deli which felt very clean and spacious in comparison to most delis. After looking over the menu I decided on a Chorizo Burrito. It took them a few minutes to prepare it (good sign, they are preparing it fresh) so I waited patiently and browsed the Mexican deli shelves for interesting products.

There were around 6 tables near the front, so I decided to stay here to eat. When it was ready, the woman behind the counter walked out with a large plate holding a massive burrito with sour cream drizzled neatly over the top. She also came out with a volcanic rock dish containing Green Spicy Mexican Salsa. I was given actual silverware including a steak knife to eat this. This is a nice surprize for me since I am used to just eating instead of ‘having a meal’.

I cannot understate how big this burrito actually was. It was filled with rice, pinto beans, large chunks of Chorizo Sausage, avocado slices, and a few other things. It was absolutely delicious. Very balanced flavors. The Chorizo had a nice spicy flavor to it while not overpowering the rest of the burrito. It also did not seem to be very greasy and unhealthy like a lot of Chorizo burritos tend to be. I’ve had chorizo burritos just dripping in oil and falling apart, but this one was nice and contained.

Solid alternative to Tehuitzingo which is half a block away.

Visited on July 8th.

Cost: $7.60
