Chalk one more up in the success list. After my poor outing to Chili Thai I was determined to get redemption for Midtown cheap Thai food. Wondee has a $6.95 Lunch Special menu which is obviously cheaper than a lot of the surrounding Thai places with $7.95 offerings.

I ordered the Red Curry With Pork which is described as made of red curry paste, bamboo shoot, basil leaf and coconut milk.
I took my meal to the outdoor courtyard as usual to enjoy the food. I opened up the bag and immediately spilled a bit of the curry broth on my pants. Great. Wish the plastic container was sealed better. Anyways, the dish came with a big side of white rice in addition to the large bowl of curry. In the bowl of curry was an enormously dense amount of bamboo slices. I could not believe how much bamboo they shoved in there. I guess bamboo is cheap. There was a decent amount of pork in the curry, a little bit of red bell pepper, and a bit of basil.

I ordered the dish ‘spicy’. At first I was disappointed in the level of spiciness that their max level of spicy went to but later retracted that opinion as the spice really built up and was burning by the end. By loading in some of the white rice into the curry broth, the dish ended up being quite big a filling.
It’s not the best Thai I’ve had, nor close to it, but it will certainly suffice for a cheap Midtown lunch option.
