Irie Caribbean Grill

Irie

Again, how could I not? A new food truck on campus. A bright, orange colored truck with Caribbean faire. Irie Caribbean food here I come.Irie

I approach the cart and find 2 people in front of me. Seems like each of them are having trouble getting what they want. “Mac and Cheese” “No Mac and Cheese.” “Fried Plantains.” “Fried Plantains aren’t ready yet.” OK, guess I’ll just go with meat. I see on the menu that you can order “Meat Only” and it’s only $5. I think I’ve figured out how to beat the system. I watched the people in front of me have their dishes half filled up with rice. Not me, not getting all that filler.

I decided that I was in the mood to try their Curry Goat so I ordered it “Meat Only”. They gave me a ton (!) of meat; this is getting me really excited. I bring it back so I can take a better look and start to dig in. First bite, the curry is delicious. A thick brown curry full of spices with a good portion of goat meat that has been slow cooked until it’s falling off the bone. There is quite a bit of bone in there, but that is to be expected when ordering a curry goat dish. The meat on the bone was tender and juicy and there were good gelatinous bits on the bone as well.

I’d say it was a delicious, large portion for lunchtime meal. I’ll be returning since I want to try some of their other dishes (Caribbean and Soul Food) to see how they compare to their competitor one block away at Gigi and Big R’s.

Cost: $5
